Above The Stag Theatre announces immediate closure

Vauxhall’s Above The Stag Theatre announced this morning that it would close down with immediate effect.

In an email sent out this morning (7th August), the management of Above The Stag Theatre, Vauxhall advised that the venue had ceased trading and closed at 9.30am today.

The email read as follows:-

“To all Above The Stag stakeholders (issued at 9.30 am on Sunday 7 August 2022).

Above the Stag ceased trading and permanently closed its Vauxhall venue at 9:30 am on Sunday 7 August 2022.

An explanatory statement will be issued at 12 noon on Tuesday 9 August 2022.

Ticket holders with future bookings will be refunded in full.

Trade creditors, staff, creatives, actors and technicians with any outstanding amounts due will be paid in full.

Thank you to all stakeholders for their loyal support.”

Founded by Peter Bull in 2008, the theatre started its life above The Stag, a gay pub in Victoria (now demolished) moving in 2012 to a railway arch in Vauxhall. In June 2018, the theatre moved to a new space on Albert Embankment which featured a 100-seat main house, 1 70-seat cabaret lounge and a bar.

Above The Stag had a focus on LGBT-themed theatre presenting a year round theatre of LGBT interest.
