Stephen Daldry’s international award-winning National Theatre production of the classic thriller returns. An Inspector Calls has been seen by more than 5 million theatergoers worldwide winning over 19 major theatre awards.
WHAT IS AN INSPECTOR CALLS ABOUT?
When Inspector Goole arrives unexpectedly at the prosperous Birling family home, their peaceful dinner party is shattered by his investigations into the death of a young woman. His startling revelations shake the very foundations of their lives and challenge us all to examine our consciences. More relevant now than ever, this is a must-see for a whole new generation.
Casting for this tour has yet to be announced.
THE HISTORY OF AN INSPECTOR CALLS
J B Priestly’s An Inspector Calls debuted in London’s West End in 1946. Stephen Daldry’s acclaimed revival first opened in 1992 at the National Theatre winning three Olivier Awards (Best Revival, Best Director and Best Designer). Transferring to the West End Inspector Calls enjoyed a two year run before opening on Broadway where it won 4 Tony Awards and 7 Drama Desk Awards.
The production has also toured Australia in the USA. A revival in the West End which ran for six years opened in 1995, the production returned in 2010 opening at the Novello Theatre before transferring to the Wyndham’s Theatre. There have been eight major national tours since 1992 and a run at the Playhouse Theatre in 2015-16.
