Sophie Melville and Adrian Schiller are part of the cast announced for Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse

Full casting has been announced for The Merchant of Venice at Shakespeare’s Globe including Sophie Melville as Portia and Adrian Schiller as Shylock.
The new production, directed by Abigail Graham, is due to run at the theatre’s indoor candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse from 18 February to 9 April 2022, with press night on 2 March.
The show will also be live-streamed on 25 March 2022.
Alongside Melville and Schiller, the cast will include Raymond Anum as Gratiano, Daniel Bowerbank as Lorenzo and Morocco, Ben Caplan as Arragon, the Duke and Solanio, Michael Gould as Antonio, Michael Marcus as Bassanio, Tripti Tripuraneni as Nerissa, Aaron Vodovoz as Launcelot Gobbo, and Eleanor Wyld as Jessica.
Looking at the problematic story in a contemporary context, the production asks us to confront and question our own prejudices in the here and now.
The creative team also includes designer Sarah Beaton, movement director Jennifer Jackson, Globe movement associate Glynn MacDonald, composer Zac Gvi, assistant director Tash Hyman, dramaturg Zoe Svendsen and Globe head of casting Becky Paris.
