Casting has been announced for the revival of Alan Bennett’s comedy Habeas Corpus at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London this December.

The show will feature Kirsty Besterman, Jasper Britton, Matthew Cottle, Ria Jones, Thomas Josling, Caroline Langrishe, Catherine Russell and Abdul Salis.

The production, originally scheduled for 2020 before the global pandemic hit, is due to run from 3 December 2021 to 26 February 2022, with opening night on 13 December.

Further casting will be announced shortly.

It will be directed by Patrick Marber with set and costume design by Richard Hudson, lighting design by Richard Howell and music and sound design by Adam Cork.

Originally staged in 1973, Habeas Corpus is a “darkly satirical merry-go-round” billed as “a filthy farce from a less enlightened age”.

It follows the antics at the Wicksteed family home where the quest for sexual pleasures of the body (“corpus”) are the ruling passions. Through an escapade of mistaken identities and carnal encounters, one motto holds fast: “He whose lust lasts, lasts longest.”
