West End musicals celebration The Show Must Go On! to be streamed live

A celebration of London musicals is to be broadcast live on YouTube after tickets to the show at the Palace Theatre sold out

The Show Must Go On! at London’s Palace Theatre, featuring performances from 18 of the West End’s top musicals, is to be streamed for free as a live broadcast.

Filmed by National Theatre Live, it will be shown in its entirety from 7pm on Sunday 6 June via YouTube and then remain available to watch for the next seven days. Tickets to see the show at the theatre have all sold out.

The show will feature performances from 18 West End musicals including Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, Dear Evan Hansen, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Six, Hamilton, The Book of Mormon, Wicked, Matilda The Musical, & Juliet, Les Misérables, The Lion King, The Prince of Egypt, Come From Away, The Phantom of the Opera, Mary Poppins, Mamma Mia!, Back to the Future The Musical and Pretty Woman The Musical.

All profits from the concert will go to Acting for Others and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s charity, Fleabag Support Fund, which are helping people affected by the global pandemic. Although free to watch online, audiences can donate to Theatre Support Fund+ via the website, theatresupportfund.co.uk/donate, or Text “THEATRE” followed by the amount they want to donate to 70460.

The concert will be hosted by musical theatre legends Bonnie Langford, whose most recent shows include 9 to 5 the Musical and 42nd Street, and Trevor Dion Nicholas, star of Hamilton and Aladdin.

Performers will include Aisha Jawando (Tina – The Tina Turner Musical), Marcus Harman (Dear Evan Hansen), Sharan Phull (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie), Collette Guitart and Hana Stewart (Six), Trevor Dion Nicholas (Hamilton), Dom Simpson and Tom Xander (The Book of Mormon), Laura Pick (Wicked), Tilly-Raye Bayer, Imogen Cole, Alyssa D’Souza, Alex Munden and Carly Thoms (Matilda The Musical), Jordan Luke Gage (& Juliet), John Owen Jones (Les Misérables), Kayi Ushe and Janique Charles (The Lion King), Christine Allado and Alexia Khadime (The Prince of Egypt), Alice Fearn (Come From Away), Lucy St Louis and Rhys Whitfield (The Phantom of the Opera), Zizi Strallen (Mary Poppins), Mazz Murray (Mamma Mia!), Olly Dobson (Back to the Future The Musical) and Aimie Atkinson (Pretty Woman The Musical). There will also be a choir of 16 made up of musical theatre 2020 graduates.

The concert will also feature a new opening number written by West End musical writing duo Stiles & Drewe, called “The Show Must Go On!” which celebrates the theatre industry in these current times.

The creative team includes directors Luke Sheppard and Anna Fox, with Stephen Brooker as musical supervisor, set design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Howard Hudson, sound design by Adam Fisher, video design by Fray Studio, and Stuart Morley as musical director. It is produced by Chris Marcus and Damien Stanton for the Theatre Support Fund+ with executive producers Jack Maple and Brian Zeilinger-Goode for MZG Theatre Productions.
