Starting Here Starting Now

West End stars Nikki Bentley, Gina Murray and Noel Sullivan are lined up for a revival of Maltby & Shire’s musical revue, Starting Here, Starting Now.

The show will run from 29 June to 18 July – the first production at Waterloo East Theatre in London since theatre buildings closed in March last year.

First performed in New York City in 1976, the revue has been a perennial favourite throughout the world for 45 years. It features the songs of Richard Matlby Jr and David Shire whose musicals include Baby, Big The Musical and Take Flight.

It ranges from tender ballads to hysterical husband-hunting laments, from wry comments on trendy marriages to ecstatic shouting-from-the-rooftop celebration. The title song, “Starting Here, Starting Now”, was made famous by Barbra Streisand.

This new production is being staged by a creative team including director Gerald Armin and musical director Inga Davis-Rutter.

Armin, who is artistic director of Waterloo East Theatre, said: “It has been a tough year for the industry and at times I felt were never going to open again, but we have survived, and I can’t wait to welcome audiences through our doors again as we bring back live theatre to the heart of Waterloo!”

Bentley’s most recent stage role was Elphaba in Wicked but she has also appeared in Ghost The Musical, Spamalot, Mamma Mia! and Shrek The Musical. Murray’s extensive credits include Donna in Mamma Mia!, Velma von Tussle in the UK tour of Hairspray and Mama Morton in the UK tour of Chicago.

After rising to fame in pop group Hear’Say, Noel Sullivan has been starring in musicals for nearly two decades, from Danny in Grease to Rock of Ages, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and We Will Rock You.
